About Us

Credit unions are nonprofit cooperative organizations that offer banking and financial services, often to specific groups. In simpler terms, credit unions are member-owned financial institutions. Unlike banks that serve their shareholders, credit unions serve their members. MIDFLORIDA's members live, work, worship, or attend school within our service area.

Whereas banks are backed by the FDIC, credit unions are insured by the NCUA (National Credit Union Administration). This federal agency charters and supervises federal credit unions and insures savings in federal and most state-chartered credit unions. Insurance is provided through the National Credit Union Share Insurance Fund (NCUSIF), a federal fund backed by the full faith and credit of the United States government.
